10 Tips for Dealing with Sugar Addiction!

10 Tips for Dealing with Sugar Addiction!

1. Reduce or eliminate caffeine. The ups and downs of caffeine include dehydration and blood sugar swings, and may cause sugar cravings to become more frequent.
Depending on which of my program systems you decide to start with and depending on where you are at on your journey, I may recommend to give yourself a break from caffeine for a while. Especially if you are having gut issues. We want to allow time for the gut to heal and help bring down inflammation. The 14 Day Happy Hormone Holistic Detox is a great way to give yourself a break and see how much better your organs will function without caffeine. You may decide to add it back in but a little less and you also may decide to stay caffeine free. I help you figure this out.

2. Drink water. Sometimes sweet cravings are a sign of dehydration. Before you go
for the sugar, have a glass of water and wait a few minutes to see what happens. This seems easy to say, but really how many times do you grab a glass of water first before reaching for something sweet? This one simple step can often help you get in the water you are missing and also help distract you as well as help move you forward from wanting a sweet treat. In my programs we work on eliminating sugar and then we learn what are better options and what are great ways to use those better options so we can still have a treat here and there and live without feeling deprived.

3. Eat sweet vegetables and fruit. They are naturally sweet, healthy, and delicious.
The more you eat, the less you’ll crave sugar. This tip helps me a lot as well as my clients. I love to teach you how to use vegetables and fruit to help you get in something that is still sweet but not go for sugar loaded foods. Blueberries in a smoothie, a nice green apple with cinnamon, ginger and coconut flakes, cut up carrots in a bowl of soup. Make our meals healthy and delicious.  We don't over due this of course but adding in some helps. :)

4. Avoid chemicalized, artificial sweeteners and foods with added sugar.
Use gentle sweeteners like maple syrup, dried fruit, stevia, raw honey, coconut sugar...
This one is big for me. Avoiding artificial sweeteners is very important. I love to teach you how to use simple ingredients to make amazing tasting food. Recipes using maple syrup or honey are amazing and perfect after you have gone without sugar for a while and you want to try a healthy treat.

5. Get physically active. Start with simple activities like walking or yoga. Start with 10 minutes a day and gradually increase. Being active helps balance blood sugar levels, boosts energy, and reduces tension which will eliminate the need to self-medicate with sugar! Hands down getting in physical activity is great. I teach what activity is helpful and how much is just right. Many that have inflammation and or autoimmune disease need to back off of intense cardio sessions and allow for better healing. Many women with a thyroid condition are stuck and can't lose weight and then we make some changes to the food they eat and they see results, others are eating well but still over doing it with exercise and we make changes to the intensity and then they see results. Remember more and harder is not always better. :)

6. Get more sleep, rest, and relaxation. Simple carbohydrates, such as sugar, are the most readily usable forms of energy for an exhausted body and mind. If you are in a chronic state of stress and/or sleep deprivation, your body will crave the quickest form of energy there is – sugar. This is why I teach a balanced nutrition approach with a focus on healing and reducing inflammation but also we work on eating a higher amount of healthy fat in order to help keep you satisfied and your energy levels up. I also teach a holistic approach to your over all health because it isn't just about food. We need proper sleep and self care in order to support our hormones and organs, this helps our body function its best all the time!

7. Evaluate the amount of animal food you eat. According to yin-yang principles of eating (such as in Macrobiotics and Traditional Chinese Medicine), eating too much animal food (yang) can lead to cravings for sweets (yin).
Imbalances can also occur with too little animal protein (for some individuals). Through experimentation and intuition, you can find which foods create balance for you as an individual.
Also, This one is key because I have found that anything we over eat can cause other areas to be out of balance. Ever notice when its summer and your body is hot you crave cold foods like fresh fruit salad and ice cream. Also if you live where we get cold winters like me in Chicago, you want warm foods like chili and soups.

8. Eliminate fat-free or low-fat packaged snack foods. These foods contain high quantities of sugar to
compensate for lack of flavor and fat, which will send you on the roller coaster ride of sugar highs and lows. Here we go!!! Remember the days of eat low fat and no fat at all? Those days were wrong and didn't end up serving us well at all. WE want good healthy fat and we want to make sure we are eating it to help our body have better energy and not crash!

9. Experiment with spices. Coriander, cinnamon, nutmeg, cloves, and cardamom will naturally sweeten your foods and reduce cravings. Oh, this is one of my favorite things to do. It works and helps make our recipes so yummy and satisfying. :) Cinnamon is great to help control your blood sugar too. :) I always say if you have something sweet like an apple or pear or a sweet potato, add some cinnamon to it!

10. Slow down and find sweetness in non-food ways! Every craving is not a signal that your body biologically requires sugar. Cravings often have a psychological component. By identifying the psychological causes of food cravings and substituting lifestyle and relationship adjustments accordingly, you can begin to find balance and take charge of your health. When life becomes sweet enough itself, no additives are needed! This is why I teach the holistic side of health, again it is not all about food. Ever notice if you have had a stressful day or situation with someone that you may go to the fridge or drive through and not even really be hungry? This is how we fill a void. This is important to tackle and figure out together. I am here for you and you are not alone!!

I hope this helps you. There is so much more in the programs that I teach, but I wanted to give you some steps that you can come back to if you feel like you fell of track and need a reminder or if you are just starting and need a place to start.

If you want to move forward with a program lets talk. You can also check out my tab on what I offer and we can set up a time to discuss what is the best choice for you.

Bye Bye Sugar!!! Yes, you can let it go!!! It is very addicting and often we need ways to combat it and kick it to the curb. :) You can do it!!

Anxiety Sucks!

Anxiety Sucks!
But we have hope!

Did you know that the physical feelings you get when the anxiety monster hits are REAL???
Many people around you may think that you should just snap out of it, or stop faking it!!!! YEP! But hey, we all have a bit of anxiety. Some of us just have it more and in different ways then others.
Those that have anxiety are known for being more sensitive and caring and creative!!! :)
A Bonus to anxiety, who knew, lol!!!

But really, if you are dealing with Anxiety and feel like it takes over your life, it is horrible. I have had to battle this ugly monster myself in life and so of course it has been passed down to my boys. UGH!! But we will WIN!!!!

You see those with Autoimmune disease are more prone to anxiety as well. When you are already having an issue with your brain and gut, well HELLO it is easier to get more waves of it and feel like you are out of control. I have helped many of my clients in this area as well because when we work on your body as a whole and not just look to treat one area it helps that much more. You are not just your brain. You are not just your gut. You are not just your autoimmune issue. We need to approach things from all areas. The cool thing is there are things we can do to start to understand anxiety better and BEAT IT!!!!

I don't think it will ever go away, I know I am in my 40's and it loves to hide and then pop out at certain times to try and take over again. I love having simple things that I can do to beat it down and not let that happen. But more importantly it has been about daily focus on my health and not letting things build and build till it explodes anymore!! I don't like being a hot mess, do you? I know there are jokes about that out there, but seriously I am not about living perfect, but I don't and can't function as a hot mess!! No Thank you!!

WE are working hard at helping my youngest son right now to beat anxiety. His autoimmune disease has had him home bound even though he is doing really well. When school started he caught a virus and it spun his Crohn's disease into a little flare and it was really difficult to get him in school long enough each day to stay on top of his school work. So we did the best we could and set up a home bound tutor to come to the house. Well, you know how when you stay away from something for a while and then need to go back, you start having those thoughts again and the what if's and ...... Well that is the Anxiety monster showing up again.

Over the years, I have done a lot of research and work in the area of anxiety. I met with a few different Dr's to get more to help myself and my clients. One of the best things I have ever learned was that we need to recognize the anxiety and talk to it. We need to let it know that we are not letting it take over anymore. It is not an easy thing at first. Especially depending on what your anxiety is. I mean most of us have more then one! Let's be real....
Just like anything else with our health we need to work on it daily. When my son and I met with his counselor at school to discuss going back to school for second semester of his freshman year, she highly recommend a book for us to read. I ordered it and we just started reading it. Well, let me tell you how it started and where we are at now.

So, last night I grabbed the book and my son looked at me and said, "I am not reading that, I don't need it." I could literally see the anxiety monster sitting on his shoulder talking to him, making his face upset and angry. I told him, I am going to read it to him and I want him to just sit and listen. Well, he responded with crossed arms lying on my bed and closed his eyes. He was showing a very closed off body language. I told him so and he put his arms by his side, but I could still tell that his anxiety monster didn't want him to listen to me. Guess, What? I read it anyway.
The first sentence had us cracking up. My husband was in the room too and we all started laughing. That was it, He was in......... He went from closed to open and laughing and learned what he anxiety themes are and was talking about what he agreed with and felt he related with and what he said was not right about his anxieties. We will continue on later today with more.

So I wanted to share with you the book. I already texted my sister about it today too. I am so excited to have a great tool to share with other Mom's. Plus its not that expensive and you can get it on Amazon.
Boom!!! Go order it now.

Gut Health Tips- Follow 3 Key Criteria when choosing a Probiotic

Gut Health Tips-  Avoid Mistakes: What to look for in a Probiotic.

I have found that gut health is the key to so many things. When I was studying with the Institute for Integrative Nutrition I had a lot of information put in front of me again on just how important healing the gut is. I have been on a journey with my health for years as well as the health of my family. It is a road that I am not getting off of and when we implemented certain food and supplements to our lifestyle we started noticing a difference. We are not perfect or where I want us yet, but we are on the journey. I love that we can heal and that I can share with others the things I have learned as a Health Coach and Fitness Professional as well as what has helped myself and family too.

Gut Fora plays a crucial role in our body. About 85% of the Immune System come from the Gut.
Do you deal with Allergies? WE do. If we can restore the gut flora we can straighten up the allergies. This was a big deal to me and I noticed little things like:
When we eat gluten and or sugar, our allergies would get worse, sneezing, psoriasis flares up, and more. Yuck!
Auto Immunity is all born in the gut. If the gut health is not digesting protein, the body attacks. Depending on where the protein goes depends on where the attack happens. So for example protein in skin- psoriasis shows up. Are you dealing with things that keep showing up as symptoms, Auto Immune disease, Thyroid, Celiac,Crohn's, Colitis, Arthritis, Fatigue syndrome, asthma, eczema, rashes, pimples, inability to produce every in body ( mitochondria). The toxins have to leave your body somewhere.
We need to heal in the gut. Heal it and Seal it. It takes a long process, but it is worth it.

So I want to share with you some things to look for in Probiotics. I hope this helps you on your journey.
The number one most powerful treatment is Nutrition, our diet; that is what we eat daily.
If you haven't heard of the GAPS diet before it is based on specific carbs. There is an intro diet with  6 stages. This helps remove all food that are difficult to digest You introduce probiotic food and bacteria with fermented foods and drinks. A good probiotic supplement too. So this is why I want to start with that information for you. I see so many things out there that are trying to tell us it is a good option for our gut health, but they can be mistakes and lead us down the wrong path and into more trouble.

Be ware of these mistakes:
Yogurt, added sugar cancels this out as well as pasteurized makes it worse.
Eating food that destroy the digestive system is a mistake to try and change. Avoiding certain things can help us to correct this mistake.
Avoid Artificial sweeteners. Artificial sweets are the gut yeast favorite food and next is sugar! Our GI tract is home to over 25 trillion bacteria and some are good! Candida in the GI Tract is a gut yeast, it is okay to have some. We can strive for 80% good and 20% bad. Gut yeast taking over has us craving bad foods. Another thing to consider is coffee, when we add sugar to it that is the issue. Alcohol also kills off the friendly bacteria in our gut and antibiotics kill the good as well.
Since our health starts in the gut we must support it the best we can.

Support is not just about us treating symptoms. It is getting to the root issue and helping it to heal.
Proper balance at the source is important.

So what do we do?

1. We can eat Kefirs and Fermented Vegetables
2. Take a good probiotic blend:

Make sure it meets 3 key criteria
1. Must get past stomach acid and bile
2. Large quantity 15 billion a day or more
3. Contain at least 7 unique strains

Friendly Bacteria:
L.acidophilus
L.salivarius
L.casei
B. bifidum
B. longum
L.thermophilus

Unfriendly Bacteria:
pathogenic bacteria and fungi, such as Candida albicans, etc

I have found with my experience that a good probiotic can make all the difference in the world when taking the right one along with eating well. After all why take one and continue to eat the same things that are over feeding the bad bacteria. Its different if we have something once in a while and double up on the antibiotics to help us get back on track then to eat poorly and expect them to be a miracle.

We must work together to heal. :) Looking for more help in this area? Contact me for info on my Health Consulting and or On Line groups for helping with nutrition.
Thank you, I hope this helps you on your journey- Coach Dani

3 Tips to help you Fit Out And Create the life you desire!

Listen to the needs of our body instead of the push of the world!!

I want you today to really notice what is going on with you, listen to what your body, mind and soul are telling you.
When you focus on what is going on with you and really listen you will often find that a solution for what is needed is somewhere waiting to come out. Maybe it was from a past conversation you had or a message you read and you now can remember it and check into the information to help yourself.
I have found that years of trying to fit in left me feeling sad and upset at myself, as if there was something wrong with me. This lead to the perfectionist mentality and always having to do more and more to be better!!! Thank God, I am a recovering perfectionist!! Ha, yes I now let the vacuuming go and my desk is a bit messy but I can work and focus on what needs to be done first and making time for myself to be healthy makes me happy!!
If you are feeling overwhelmed in an area, ask yourself is it you putting this extra pressure on yourself? And WHY? Is it to reach a deadline, goal or to look better to someone else? There is nothing wrong with working and reaching goals. I know I focus on this too. I have learned that scheduling and focusing on seasons is helping me move forward better. There are certain things that only you can do, only you can do your workout and only you can eat the food you choose and only you can do what else?? Is it certain things for your work or business? What can you hand to someone else to do? It might be hard at first but you will find that Stopping the worry about fitting in and needing to do everything yourself will FREE YOU!!!!
Here are 3 tips to help you Fit Out and Create the life you desire!!
  1. Express your true self always, it might be tough at first, but start to pay attention to things going on around you and people around you. If you are changing who you are for what ever reason, be aware of that and stop! Be You!! Love you, your health will improve in so many ways.
  2. Try to give up TV, magazine, newspapers and avoid the Internet garbage. You don't have to disconnect completely. But if you are using social media for any thing for work or business, then get on do what you need to and get off, don't scroll through the nonsense. smile emoticon
  3. Create a daily intention list. IF you first write out more on things that are meaningful to you in life this will help you break down each day. Where do you want to go, what would you like to accomplish, who will you meet, who will you work with, who is in your circle of friends, list desires of your heart. What food are you eating, what does your day look like, what clothes are you wearing, are you helping others in some way??
  I want, I am, I desire, I,,,,
So when you are doing a daily intention it will go along with what you desire, Today I am eating Healthy meals, I worked out and I am going on a date with my hubby and I am showing him how much he means to me by singing him a song. Or whatever your intention is for the day. It should align up with your desires for your life.
Thank you for stopping by today. I appreciate you and hope your doing well. If you are dealing with things that are causing you cravings in life and you want to better understand where they are coming from, please comment below with your Email or message me with your email and I will share my Video Link with you on the 8 Causes of Cravings. 5 Tips to help support Thyroid Health

My Journey keep inspiring me to keep going and reach more people and help them be successful with their health, fitness and nutrition goals too.

You may not know this or maybe you know a little bit from some of my posts and videos. Anyway, my name is Dani. Years and years ago I was diagnosed with migraines, then psoriasis, then told my tummy issues were IBS, and all my pain could be Fibromyalgia, on to being diagnosed with Hypothyroidism, to an MRI showing a growth on my pituitary glad ( that is in the brain).
Since I have been in the health and fitness industry about 24 years now, I always wanted to learn and take action in order to help others. Especially because I've been through a thing or two. I am the one that will learn the info and break it down for you so you can be more successful in your own health journey.
I was put on Thyroid meds and from the start I wanted OFF!!!! I made that known to my Dr. I remember telling her. I was sitting in her office after going for so many tests, feeling like is there ever going to be an answer to what is going on with me and when I was told, I was happy but also very upset! Anyway, moving on.... I told her, I am going to do my best and learn and get off this medication. She agreed and was supportive. After being on the meds for a while my tummy just started hurting worse and I ended up having my gallbladder removed. This made me so angry and brought me motivation to help others to a new level. I knew I needed to get info first and then share. I started a few different things. I stopped my Thyroid Medication and I am still off it.
1. Drinking a supplemental health shake not just a protein shake like in the past.
2. Went organic for my food for me and my family.
3. went back to school to become a Holistic Health Coach to go along with my other coaching business to help people even more.
There are so many different things that can help us and hurt us and I find its what we are Willing to do that matters.
Today I share a few of my TIPS and I hope they help you.
1. Drink enough water each day, keep it clean. I drink distilled.
2. Choose Organic Animal Protein, when I go without I lose energy and feel weak.
3. Make and consume Bone Stock. I love this it always helps build my strength back up.
4. Proper exercise and REST, you might be surprised that those killer cardio session are actually causing more harm.
5. SLEEP. get good quality sleep about 7-8 hours a night. I went years without it and now It is a critical part of my healing journey.
Thank you for reading and if you feel this can help someone else, share! Thank you for that too!!!
