Figure Competition Prep Finished Week Five

Its almost Christmas and I am on this amazing journey. Getting ready to compete in my first Figure show is exciting. When I first started training, I was very excited for a couple of reasons. One, since last year after my surgery, I gained about eight pounds and struggled to get it off, having to take time off for injuries and not getting in my own workouts was very hard for me to do. Even though I was still in pretty good shape and everyone was nice and told me they couldn't really tell that I was heavier, ( how nice, but really?) I was still teaching my classes and eating pretty clean, I felt heavy and not as in shape as I had been about three years back.
Second, this is my dream!! I have always worked hard at accomplishing my goals and help others do the same. I shared in my first post about this journey that this is my dream and my turn to show everyone that it can be done. That is whatever your goal is or whatever your goals are, you can accomplish all of them. For me being a Fitness Professional and helping others get in the best shape of their lives is very rewarding and also a blessing. Having a very successful business as a rep for Beachbody is the reason I get to do this now!! I have come very far in my life, with financial hard times to being sick and this is my time to say: WE Can Do It, WE Are Worth it! I am on a mission to reach as many people as I can and help them live a better balanced and quality filled life, emotionally, physically and financially.

OK, so has it been easy? Um, yes and no! I struggle like anyone else with making it happen, the difference is this. I know that I am making progress, I also know I have a long way to go. I may be hard on myself and say, come on really more muscle please lets go already, but at the same time I am taking pictures along the way and when I look at them I see the difference, sometimes just a bit and sometimes more. I am keeping track of my workouts and what I am eating and where my body fat percent is at as well as my body weight. So, each week I adjust depending on how my body responds.
So, I may want more changes now, but I am only in my sixth week and wow what a difference already. If I beat myself up with negative words, that won't get me anywhere. I am in this to go far and to help others as well. So on to week six and more great changes to come.

I am so blessed to be able to share this journey with a very special friend, here name is Lori McGraw. We are friends, fellow fitness girls and she is a coach on my team. Lori and I now get to share this most special bond of training together. We both have a huge passion for motivation and helping other women reach their goals. So we are in this together and I plan on sharing some of our pics together soon as well.

My Journey to compete in a Figure Competition!

I am getting ready to start Week Five in my journey to compete in a Figure competition. This is my DREAM. Years ago I started and then life got in the way. Well, for the past three years I have been meeting more goals and dreams than ever before because of my Fitness Business; so it is time for me to revisit this dream and make it happen. It is so amazing to see others reach their goals and dreams and while I am helping them, I hear that voice in my head saying "what about you and that one dream you haven't done yet"?  So here we go!

I have to say that for me to say I was heavier and struggling is rough, but it keeps me real and let's you know that I understand how things happen and I can honestly say that all I have been through is why I help others and show them how to live a Quality filled Balanced life. For me it has been a year of being about 8-10 pounds heavier then when I was in the best shape of my life from doing the P90X program and eating clean. After my gallbladder surgery and being diagnosed with Hypothyroidism I put weight on and my same old routine of teaching classes and fitting in a workout here or there and eating clean on and off was not working. It was time for me to get back to what works and stick to it! I was told to back off of my own workouts except for therapy, due to a shoulder tear from years ago and an accident that lead to sprains in my ankle, neck and back. Anyway, I still do therapy and self care it is so important but I have gone back to my own workouts and eating clean and I am seeing results! Yeah!!!

 So it is an amazing journey so far! I am so excited about moving forward and seeing results. I have to still work on adding more muscle to my body and leaning out as well, but I am fitting in my jeans and they are loose!!! WOW!! I even got my skinny jeans on and they were big! Say "YEAH" with me!! "YEAH!!!

As I progress I would love to share my journey with you and talk about how it is going, post some pictures and videos as well.

Even though I am a Fitness Professional, I still hired a Figure Coach. This is what I recommend especially for your first year of shows. They know all the information to help you and they have it down to a science so why not! After all people hire me and come to me for help, why wouldn't I go to others as well. Learning all you can is important and taking Action is what makes your Dreams come True.

Workout With The Trainer Program

I created a program called Workout with the Trainer. This is a little different than group personal training. I get a lot of questions about how I workout and what I eat and how I stay fit and in shape. It is all about balance to me and I love to teach it to all! So this program is the way for me to show you how I workout. The group of participants follow me through my workout, they workout too and get my encouragement and push to keep going and not give up. I do help correct form of course, it is just in me to do that, I want it a good workout with good form. So as I workout, you do too and you get to learn what I do and learn a bunch of different workout routines and how to implement them into your week to get a great workout that brings results! We also have accountability by doing this as a group and we all support and motivate each other! Love it!!!

When: Friday mornings at 10:30 am for 45- 60 minutes

10 Holiday Tips to keep your weight from going up!

Holidays are approaching quickly! Here are a few tips for you to help you stay on track and help prevent the pounds from going up, hey this might just help you lose a few!!

Ten Tips for you!

Tip 1: NO holiday grazing, Sit and enjoy your meal with your family.

Tip 2: Shopping and  Mall Temptations: Bring food with you, a turkey sandwich, a bag of nuts with some cut up veggies, a protein bar... Taking snacks with you will help you stay away from all the food temptations while you shop!

Tip 3: Use a small plate, it will make you look like you have more food on your plate, but also only allow you to take a little bit of each thing you want, plus keep your portions smaller to help you not over eat!

Tip 4: Baking: Use applesauce instead of sugar!

Tip 5: Eat a healthy breakfast to help you avoid over eating while at parties or gatherings.

Tip 6: Tape the Gym Class schedule to your fridge, it will remind you to workout and to walk away from the temptation of eating again.

Tip 7: The day or night of  your get together wear form fitting clothes, you will be sure to feel what you eat more this way and it will remind you to stop.

Tip 8: Eat slow, it takes twenty minutes to feel full, put your fork down after every bite!

Tip 9: Make this year about Love and family and not about food and desserts.

Tip 10: Don't wait till the first of the year, Get started now so you have the habits already started and in place, so when 2012 starts you really will have something to CELEBRATE!!

3 Tips for Eating To Lose Weight

Eating to lose weight is a little different than a regular eating plan that you will have each day. Why? Well, I have found that when you want to lose a little bit of weight you have to trick the body into moving out of the comfortable zone its been in. When you have a lot of weight to lose and start making better choices in your life about food and exercise, well, you usually will see weight loss pretty quickly. In other cases, your body is so comfortable it won't budge, and you have to wait a bit on your new plan and then you will start to see it working. I have seen many different things. The top thing I notice always is it has to do with what you are eating and how much of what you are eating. Also, if you are eating the same amount that you did when you were really active and now your not doing the same amount of activity each day, well, you could gain weight, or not lose what you want. So, you see it is a blend of these things together that will help.
So, lets say you have had your Dr. check up and you know you don't have a medical issue that is working against you, I get this, I have hypothyroidism and I know how it can be hard to lose those extra pounds for sure.  So if you are clear and are ready then take these tips in to consideration and be on your way! You may have heard them before, but are you doing them and staying consistent with them long enough for them to work??

1. Drink enough water through out the day and Avoid sodas and juices with empty or sugar loaded calories. This tip alone can help you to start to lose weight. When I run challenges, I always say, NO Soda!! Get off it now and see the difference in your body and your mind. Yes, your mind, you will start to feel less foggy and more clear, well, you may get a headache from going without, but it will get better.
Follow these guidelines: As soon as you wake up drink a glass of water, before every meal have a glass of water, and during a workout have water. Before you know it your on your way to staying hydrated and moving your system into seeing good results. (Yes, a cup of coffee is OK or some green tea, decaf and organic is best.)

2. Follow a meal plan that is balanced with protein, carbs and healthy fats.

Sample Meal Plan:
Eat every 4 hours! Keep it simple. Balance your foods together!
I give you an example of what I eat in the Eating Clean TAB above, please feel free to check it as well.
Meal 1: 4 egg whites with 1 cup of Oatmeal

Meal 2: 5 ounce chicken breast (palm sized) with tomato salad

Meal 3: 1 cup of Greek Yogurt and blueberries

Meal 4: Shakeology with black cherries.

Meal 5: 5 large shrimp and unlimited leafy salad with raw broccoli and raw cucumber

Meal 1: Omelet from 4 egg whites, 1/2 cup chopped broccoli, 1 oz of low fat mozzarella cheese with 1 slice of Ezekiel bread

Meal 2: 3 oz of Tuna with 1 cup of Hummus and tomatoes

Meal 3: Shakeology with 1 cup of water, 1/2 cup of soy milk or low fat milk. and 1 cup of Strawberries frozen

Meal 4: 5 oz Chicken Breast with 1 cup of Green Beans and 1 cup of brown rice

It depends on how many meals you get in a day and how active you are, if you spread your meals out every 3-4 hours you should be good.

3. Move it or gain it! Yep, that's right, move it or lose it is what we usually say for certain things, but in this case I say move it or gain it. You need to get in exercise each day, find what you like, or just understand that you have to start something and hopefully you can make a mental switch in your brain to tell yourself that the fact that you don't like it isn't an excuse to not do it. You are worth more than that, what are your goals, what do you want in life, why do you want to be healthier??? Ask, yourself this, and answer yourself. Write it all down and then go for a walk, put in a DVD like P90X or Turbo Jam, go to the gym, do something to get your body moving!! See Tom's before and after picture to the left, and he is now starting on his next goal. Staying determined is part of it.

Keep this tips as a daily reminder of how to keep going. They are great tips for you to maintain a healthy weight as well! Because after all when you lose you may be able to adjust a bit here and there, but if you put the weight right back on by going back to old habits, then you have to start all over again. Stick to the healthy habits for life!!

3 Tips to Drop Stress and Finally Lose Weight!

I have to admit this has been a hard area for me in my life, I am truly one that loves to work and keep going, going, going! So, to admit that I am a bit of a control freak is rough, but I have worked on it for a long time now and have to say, that it is totally true that I have to schedule my day, and this includes rest as well as work and meals too! As a Migraine sufferer, this is all to true for me, having a daily rest time scheduled is one of my top priorities! As a wife, mom and business owner who sufferers from migraines, I often will lose days or weeks of focus and that is no good for me or anyone. I have goals and I am successful and want to continue to be and teach other woman that we can do this and drop stress and lose weight and feel good about our life and reach our goals. You with me? Let's do it!

Tip 1: Set a daily to do list- This will include all the tasks you need to accomplish for the day. An example below: 
1. workout 1 hour
2. prepare food and meals for day
3. kids to school
4. reading positive self improvement book 10 pages
5. Audio listen 30 minutes Jim Rohn
6. Time with God
7. Teach class/or train client 3 hours
8. schedule posts/answer emails/ social media 1 hour
9. Email team and customers 30 minutes
10. webinar 1 hour
11. 15 minutes lay flat eyes closed
12. home work/family time 4-8
13. me time bath
14. connect with husband

Tip 2: Understand and except that you have to schedule your time for yourself daily and a longer time for yourself weekly and monthly as well. Taking care of yourself is the best way to take care of others better! So plan baths, walks, reading, sewing, go dancing, out with the girls, get a massage, go for a weekend for you to replenish, join a bible study group, set time each day to close your eyes and dream of clouds and beaches for whatever time you can set aside even if its 5-15 minutes. Do you need to stay in the bathroom an extra 10 minutes in order to get it in? Then do that! Just make sure you put it into your schedule.

Tip3: Make it known to the family that this is needed/wanted and IS GOING TO HAPPEN with every ones help. Yes, that is correct, when one person is making a positive change it will have an effect on the entire family so make it known and expect some hesitation on someones part, but don't back down, stay strong with this new boundary and new habit you are creating. In time all will be used to it and they will see you are better for doing it and it will teach them all a good habit for themselves too!

Being an example just happens, so make it a good example. Instead of the mom that runs around annoyed, snapping at every word someones says, losing her patience, not eating well, take it out on everyone cause we are up 3 lbs again, (didn't I just lose that, ugh), hmm wonder If my husband wants sex tonight, of course he does, what can I say to get out of that, I haven't slept a straight  night for 3 nights now, ugh I feel like I am going crazy, what day is it, oh school is starting oh my gosh what happened to summer!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Sound like anyone you know? Maybe or Definitely it is time to schedule your daily time for you. And yes even the moms that work full time need to do this too, even more so. I have heard it all, time is what we make of it. I have compassion but I tell you like it is, you want to do something or make a change you need to do it, make time for it, whatever time you can. If you don't do it now, you will never have more time later, you know you think that right? Oh, I will wait till I have more time after this project, after the kids go back to school, after I get this house organized. Really? Plan it, schedule it and do it. That is the only way! When I get a migraine I redo what I need to the next day. It is all about Mastering the negative and knowing when you need the extra rest in order to do more the next day. Be real, it is a daily process. You can do it. Now get started. Sharing a thing or two about Losing Weight

As you walk in front of the mirror, what is the first thing you look at? Is it the positive beautiful aspects of who you are, or are you looking for all the little negative things? Ah, didn't think I was going to say that did you? Well, I truly know that no matter how many times we tell ourselves that we are wonderful the way we are, do you really believe it? I do, but I often struggle with it too! I know how I feel when my weight is up a little bit more than it normally is. I know how I feel when it is down at a good healthy weight as well. So, what I am getting at is, it isn't always about what you weigh but how you feel. How we feel can be discussed in a couple of different ways.

1. You may be having feelings like you are not good enough or that you don't look good in your clothes and don't even think about being naked.
2. You may feel good about yourself but feel sluggish, overwhelmed with low energy and its hard to do things like bend over or go up the stairs, and run after your kids well forget it.
3. You may feel bad about feeling all the above things and start to blame everything around you for it happening. It couldn't be the food choices your making, its the fact that you have no time, you don't get enough sleep, these darn hormones are making me fat. If I could only had more money to buy healthy food that would help me.

Do you ever find yourself thinking any of these things?
I have, I also talk to others on daily basis that do. For me, I am a thinker, I have a strong focus on what I want and how I want to feel and live my life. I am human as you are and we all deal with these things from time to time. It is when they get out of control and you can't get the feeling and thoughts to stop, that is when you really need to look at this and ask for help. So, remember there is nothing wrong with reaching out to someone that can help you. Actually when it comes to eating issues, you will be more successful when you get help from qualified people that know what to do to help you. Working with a Psychologist, Trainer and Nutrition Expert are great ways to make sure you are getting all the correct advice on how to deal with and manage your eating issue.

So, as a woman who has been in pretty good shape and deals with 2-8 lbs here and there, I tell you that I have to think about what is going on in my life too, I have to do all the things I tell others to do.

1. Eat Healthy: not just to lose weight but to really feel good and avoid fatigue and to be well inside as well as look well on the outside.

2. Be active: Finding some way to be active everyday, move, move, move! Walk, take a group exercise class, lift weights, ride your bike, play ball in the yard or park with the kids, dance!!

3. Being Active is good but remember the intensity and frequency do count: So you are active, but how often? And How active, is it just a stroll around the block? Based off of your goals will determine what intensity is right for you. If you want to lose weight you need to do more than go for a stroll.

4. Supplement: Make sure I am taking my vitamins and supplements everyday is important too. I use Shakeology and whey protein powder as well as a multivitamin everyday.

5. Self Care: This is not just eating well and exercise it is about making sure that I get enough rest each day so my body recovers from what I do. Not only rest but things like massage or using my foam roller in between visits of a massage or chiropractic care, also taking quiet time for me each day, if its a bath, or sitting and reading. Keeping a good eye on my Thyroid and how it is doing is important too. Seeing your Dr for checkups and  also, talking to someone like a Psychologist to help you work through things like anxiety of life and help you learn to understand how and why you do what you do. I believe in personal development so much, taking time to read books, listen to audios and talk with successful people is a great way to move you forward in life. After all it isn't just about my body, it is my mind and soul as well.

These all play a part in you reaching not only your weight loss goals but your goals in life.

My Turbo Fire/ P90X Journey Begins!

I am doing it!! Yes, I have started my Turbo Fire and P90X Journey! These are my two top favorite workouts! I am getting ready for a Trip to LA! This is going to be my first time visiting LA, I am so excited! For the next 30 Days I will be posting my videos and blogging on how I am doing with my journey! I have a goal to drop 5 lbs! Lose 8-10 Lbs in 30 Day- Last check in!

It is almost the end of our lose 8-10 lbs in 30 days. What does that mean? Well, it is time to check in and see how your 30 Days went. For some of us it means we need to refocus and start again, maybe something got in the way of your goals. That is why it is so important to have your intention set and your mind ready to go! Now that you got yourself started you can do it all again and again. Some of you have seen great results and are still wanting to lose a little bit more, and some maybe ready for a program to help you not lose anymore, but to still stay healthy and keep the weight off forever! Lose 8- 10 Lbs in 30 days- Exercise Tips

Exercise Tips:

Walk: I am asking you to make sure you walk as much as possible. Take the stairs, park further away, get outside and walk!!

Lift Weights: Lift weights, use your own body weight and resistance bands- all of the above! Do 3 full body workouts each week! Increasing your lean muscle is a great way to help you see some beautiful definition and also improve how your body burns calories! Burn the fat!!!! Make sure you warm up for about 5 minutes before you start lifting. Aim for low weights or no weights at all if this is your first time ever lifting, and make sure you are cleared by your Dr. too!! Beginners can start with one set per exercise and work up to two to three sets per exercise over time. Here is a big one for me- Pay Attention to your form!! Stay safe. I want you to lift with good form and feel the muscle moving the weight instead of the weight moving you. So control it!! Beginners can start with doing about 15 - 20 reps per exercise set and then as you are able to lift heavier you will adjust your reps as well to around 12-15!
Beginners can also start at 2x a week and add a third workout in the week after you feel you are recovering well. Make sure you have 1- 2 days in between your lifting days to recover! Don't worry those days your doing cardio so you are still exercising! If you are used to working out- Beware of depleting your body to much, make sure you feel good ad have energy to help your body drop the pounds you want to drop! Work hard but don't kill your self! :) A great idea is to hire a Personal Trainer to help you with form and proper intensity for what level you are at. Another idea is to follow a DVD at home; it's often like having a trainer in your living room!

Cardio: Aim for 3 cardio days a week. Beginners can do cardio 3 x a week at about 50% - 60% of your maximum heart rate. Aim for at least 30 minutes. To really help lose fat aim for 60%!! When you get to an intermediate level- now is the time to push harder and get leaner, train at 70% - 80% of MHR.
 Heart Rate: Take 220- Age
this equals your max heart rate.
take this number and multiply it by the % that you are aiming for! This will tell you what number you should aim for for your heart rate!

Pick fun things that you love to do, and some try some new things too! Dance, run, walk, swim, take a class like Turbo Kick, get on an elliptical or treadmill, just pick and do at least 30 minutes! I love Turbo Fire! If you have questions about it, just let me know! I can direct you where to get it and how to implement it into your routine!

One of your cardio days is a Interval Training day: After you warm up do intervals for the next 25- 30 minutes! Use Your heart rate to understand how this works: 1 minute work at about - 65% or MHR, then for 30 seconds crank it up baby and go for about 85% of MHR. Alternate between these 2 for the rest of your time. Be sure to cool down under 65% of MHR for a few minutes after interval is over!

I will be sharing with you all my workouts! So be ready to workout with me if you choose! Otherwise check out a gym near you and see what classes they offer! Or plan walks outside and look around and see if you have bands or weights around that you forgot about. It is worth the investment to get a few things to help you out, but you can also find some used equipment in the paper or websites out there.

Lose 8- 10 Lbs in 30 Days- Food Triggers and Cravings!

What is your food Trigger? What do You Crave?

Food triggers can be hard to deal with and cravings too! Understand that you have to eliminate your top triggers right now, till you reach your goals. After that you may realize it isn't a trigger for you anymore, and you can have it once and awhile and be fine. Or you may learn it is not for you to have anymore at all.

Cravings can be when we really are not eating well and our body is still hungry for proper nutrition- this is even if you are full your body is still hungry. Sometimes we are bored or tired and it requires us to use a replacement to help us to avoid the craving all together.

Watch the video for tips on this and remember it will require you to mentally prepare yourself to get rid of the trigger foods and also to invest in some tea, take walks, baths, make phone calls, pray, and exercise!!

Lose 10 lbs in 30 Days- Food to Eat and Avoid

Foods we need to eat:
Eat protein with every meal. That is with every meal, all six!! Use the size of your palm to get correct amount for each meal. Egg whites are one of my favorites as well as chicken and salmon!

Eat Unrefined Carbohydrates at each meal. Choose from fruits and veggies as well as whole grains.

Eat Healthy fats. In fish, seeds, nuts, eggs and more.

We should avoid:
Anything that is refined, over processed- like white flour and sugars. We find these in sweets and more!

Fast foods are full of saturated and trans fats.
Don't skip meals.
No sugar substitutes

Lose 10 lbs in 30 days: Supplement with Protein?

Why do We Need to Supplement with Protein?

I know I am working hard to lose weight, and after I do I want to keep it off and keep my body lean and healthy. Supplementing with Protein is a sure way for me to do this. I have heard of many protein powders and have tried many too. I do have my favorites which I will put into my recipes for you to see, but it ultimately is up to you to pick what is best for you. I just recommend!

Part of eating clean for me is eating five to six meals a day and they all include both a complex carbohydrate as well as protein in each of them. Sometimes the fastest way for me to get it in is in a liquid meal. YUMMY!! I can make these into amazing shakes or smoothies. Adding a scoop of your favorite protein powder to many things helps to get in all we need. I personally use Shakeology- for the top reason that no other shake is out there that gives my body all that is in it, I also use  Beachbody Vanilla and Chocolate Whey Protein powder. Here are some of my favorite ways to make a great shake!! Also the great thing about Shakeology is it Isn't just a protein shake, you are getting so much more in it! I first will  say this to you: be cautious of some brands that are loaded with sugar and artificial sugars. This is not the way to help you stay healthy, just because it is a protein supplement will not mean it is the best choice for you. As always I tell it like it is!!

Chocolate oatmeal shake:
1/2 cup of precooked plain oatmeal
1 scoop chocolate protein powder
1/2 cup of skim milk ( I use organic lactose free)

Chocolate Mint Shakeology:
1 scoop of Chocolate Shakeology
1/2 cup of ice
1/2 cup of water
1/2 cup of skim milk or your choice
little bit of mint extract

Orange Cream Dream Shake:
1 scoop of vanilla protein powder
1/2 cup of water
1/2 cup of ice
1 orange peeled
1/4 cup of milk

Chocolate Strawberry Shakeology:
1 scoop chocolate Shakeology
3/4 cup of water
1/2 cup of milk
1/2 - 1 cup of frozen strawberries (sometimes I do half with peaches too)

You can pick your favorites too, like natural peanut butter, bananas, and more! We also have the Shakeology 3 day Cleanse that is very popular. I have an old post on that as well. Now go blend!!

Lose 10 Lbs in 30 Days: What Should We EAT?

Lose 10 lbs in 30 Days: Eat Clean and Balanced!

My kitchen with the food I bought after I went shopping. Tons of Organic Veggies, Tomato Juice for a metabolism smoothie, apple cider vinegar, salsa, organic sauce, Ezekiel Bread, oatmeal, flax seed meal. On and On!!

Step 1: Drink Lemon Water everyday! Be sure to see old post on how to do this so you do it right! Also, drink water all day long- about two or maybe three liters a day. Aim to drink about 2 cups of water at each meal. Staying hydrated is very important. Yes, your drinking lemon water in the morning to kick start your day, but also squeeze some lemons in to your water during the day too!

Step 2: Eat 5 meals a day: Plan and prepare so you are ready! I have many other options in my Eat Clean Tab above, check that out to help you too, shopping list and meal plans are all there as well.

 Here is an example of my day:

Meal 1: 7 am- 3- 4 Egg whites with 1/2 cup of Oatmeal cooked with water and a dash of cinnamon, I add a little bit of Organic Lactose Free Fat Free or 1% Milk after it cooks and a touch of Agave nectar. Other days I have 2 slices of Ezekiel Bread with a spray of olive oil on each piece.

Meal 2: 10:30- 11 am- 1/2 cup of organic Fat Free Greek Yogurt, with 2 TBS of Fat Free Cottage Cheese, a small hand full of dry oats and small hand full of blueberries. YUMMY. Sometimes I don't add the oats and I use extra berries.

Meal 3: 2 or 3 PM- Shakeology: 1 scoop of Chocolate Shakeology with 1/2 cup of water and 1/2 cup of Organic Lactose Free Fat free milk, 1/2 cup of ice and a little bit of mint extract, All blended together. Other days I may use berries or sun butter.

Meal 4: 3 oz chicken breast or salmon, 1 cup of broccoli and salad with spinach leaves and tomato.

Meal 5: Green Organic Apple, with celery and some hummus.

Meal 6: If needed Protein shake or veggies and egg whites.

Other meal ideas: Egg whites with a piece of lactose free cheese melted with spinach leaves!
Strawberries with chopped apple and nuts.

EAT EVERY 2- 4 Hours!!!!! No Eating 3 Hours before Bed. Meal 6 should only be used for those of us that are hungry before bed or have worked out in the evening hours and we need the food to keep us going. Otherwise get all your food in 3 hours before bed!!

Tips to get Your Shorts or Jeans to Fit in time for Summer!

Yes, I said Summer! I know Spring is just Starting. That is why I said in time for Summer!
You have to have your plan ready now to be ready for the summer months, because before we know it we will be looking to put on some shorts or even jeans with a nice tank top and sandals or heels and if the jeans or shorts are too tight we will not be happy. I like to go by how I feel and how my clothes fit. This is a good indicator for me on how I am doing with my eating and exercise plans. So here are some tips to get us in those shorts looking and most importantly feeling good!!

1. Drink Water, not Soda: Make sure you are drinking plenty of water. Don't wait until you are thirsty, that is too late. Also eating foods like melons, citrus, cucumbers, tomatoes, celery and lettuce helps, these are filled with water and help you feel fuller. Aim for: Approximately one ounce of water per pound of scale weight. I wake up and the first thing I do is drink two glasses of water. Notice the difference in your waist line and so many other things too.  Cut out soda all together, it's no good for you and you will see results much faster.

2. Balance your meals: Eat every 3- 4 hours with a balanced meal of complex carbohydrates and lean protein. Eating carbs by themselves is not the way to go as well as eating too many at each meal. If you are having rice then you don't want to have a piece of bread too. Protein is metabolized most efficiently when eating with a complex carbohydrate. Pairing these together fuels the body, feeding our muscle tissue while burning stored fat. Opt for a lean chicken breast with a cup of brown rice and some green veggies like broccoli. Eating every few hours will keep your metabolism up as long as you choose healthy foods and keep your portions balanced.

3. Cut out added sugars and all artificial sweeteners: It is all over, in deli meats, canned veggies, dried fruit, soda, yogurts, you have to be careful. Read the labels, no aspartame!!!! Just become a better shopper and avoid it at all cost.
Find brands that are natural. I have older posts on this as well. The average adult consumes way to much sugar. It has increased by more than 30% in the last 20 years. Sugars are the enemy of the body.

4. Eat More Salad: Eating more salad is a good idea. Eat it with lunch and dinner. It will help fill you up and give you a good amount of nutrition every day! Create a balanced salad with some chicken or fish cup up on it or on the side. Use limited salad dressings, see if you follow tip number 3, you will avoid salad dressings. Make your own, or just drizzle some lemon juice and a little bit of olive oil over the top! YUMMY!

5. Exercise: Make time everyday to get in at least 30 minutes of exercise. Add resistance training in at least 3x a week and the rest of the days you can do cardio. Go to a class that is fun like Turbo Kick or PiYo! Get outside and go for a walk, dance around the house, go up and down the stairs till your heart is pumping and you have a little sweat going on. Get moving is the point here! Nutrition is 80% of it, and moving to help burn calories is going to help you do it faster and do it the right way! Muscle burns and the more we have the better.

So, alot of what I said is basic, but needs to be said and taken seriously. Get started today and you will be ready for summer.
